The bark paintings flourished in Assam around the 15th century by the Great Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankaradeva.
These bark paintings have been passed down from generations in the Sattra and now pursued even outside the Sattra, depicting tales from Hindu mythology and scriptures.
These are painted using natural colours, painted onto the bark of Xanchi tree
The Mask making art form of Assam which recently earned its GI tag is more than 5 centuries old. This age old traition developed around the 15th century as a by-product of the Neo-Vaishnavism movement by the Great Vaishnavite Saint Srimanta Sankaradeva.
These masks are based on the characters from our Indian epics and are made from bio-degradable / sustainable materials.
